X-Wing Pyro Red 1
A replica of the Red 1 Pyro filming miniature as constructed by ILM (Van Nuys) in 1976. Incredibly, this is a casting from the estate of Dave Jones, and was casting number 7 out of ten. In the mid 2010s, I had talked to Dave about the possibility of this project, and was a cheerleader for it to come to fruition. Sadly he passed before the project was completed, but thanks to Dave's son and a great model maker in the community named Frank Cerney, the parts were taken across the finish line and I was honored to build this example. It is the closest any one has gotten to the correct dimensions of the pyro builds.
This is a representation of how the pyro Red 1 looked before it was partially detonated and then repaired and repainted as Red 3, which is how the model appears and survives today. No one remembers why it was changed, and presumed unused a second time, but it remains as the only existing intact example of a pyro X-Wing from the first film.
