This is the Tibanna Gas Mine, a Ralph McQuarrie painting that was added into the Special Edition of The Empire Strikes Back. It’s a floating mining platform that serves Cloud City, and was an opportunity for me to flesh out the design. I chose to add little buildings and a McQuarrie concept Cloud Car to the landing platform, to impart a sense of scale. I honestly have no idea if this makes the model too large or too small, as the painting is much like the first photo below – a side on angle. Regardless, it was an absolutely pleasure to make!
