McQuarrie/Johnston Millennium Falcon
This is a really fun and gratifying revisit of a build I did in 2017. It was a delight to dip back in to making another take on the ship that existed as a design concept, using McQuarrie and Johnston pieces to pull cues from, but this time with all of my digital skill sets and tools. I started essentially fron scratch, building the main saucer shapes and having them printed in one piece (top saucer and separate bottom saucer) overseas.
There is an aluminum plate I had watercut, and Mike Reader machined a custom mount that hides the main power cables. All lighting are LEDs from Evan Designs, so there is no motherboard or arduino - just groups of LEDs all being fed by 12 volt lines. Everything else was printed in my shop on a Form 3+, and a lot of spaces left blank to accept styrene sheeting and plating. These areas were dressed with model kit parts, which is always one of the most pleasurable parts of a build like this. The figures are from scans of action figures that were cleaned up and posed appropriately, and are the only elements used I did not create. This model is about three feet long, and VERY heavy as I kind of over built it a bit. It was a genuine pleasure to make another one of these.
Be sure to visit the first one I built, as it will always hold a special place in my heart.
