McQuarrie Sandcrawler
This is my interpretation of the Sandcrawler from Star Wars, as seen in the preproduction painting by Ralph McQuarrie. Much like the sketchbooks featuring the work of Joe Johnston and others, the McQuarrie paintings were and continue to be a massive source of inspiration for me. This model was my first real foray into building an under structure in Rhino and then printing in ABS on an FDM printer. From there I clad the model in styrene and detailed it using traditional techniques. Comically, it’s in scale with the Galoob Jawas, so I threw some in here and there. It took the better part of a year and a half to build the model, and I feel that I grew my digital skill sets tremendously.
